After no new signing or retirement announcements for two days PLL GMs and players put pen to paper. Makes you wonder... Do people still physically sign contracts or is it all done electronically these days? Either way it doesn't really matter, what does matter is who's staying and who's going. In this edition of free agency; everyone is staying.
Head coach and GM Andy Towers locked in two key pieces for his Carolina Chaos. On the defensive side of the ball former Army-West Point defenseman Johnny Surdick signs back with the Chaos keeping together a huge group of athletic and talented long poles that includes a former defenseman of the year in Jarrod Neumann and two former North Carolina Tar Heels Jack Rowlett and Will Bowen. That four head monster backed up by All World goalie Blaze Riorden will boost the Chaos back up to the second or maybe first overall team defense as they were in 2023. In the midfield Kyle Jackson is resigning with the Chaos. Jackson put up 13 points for the season, with an impressive midseason international apperiance with the Haudenosaunee National team. If you missed Jackson's performance, do yourself a favor and check it out, the man balled out. Dhane Smith was placed earlier this month on the Holdout List, which means if the Canadian midfielder does not play in the PLL this summer Jackson's role with Chaos will expand.
The only other team to make a signing was the Utah Archers who resigned Cole Williams after receiving the attackman/midfielder in a trade with the Denver Outlaws formerly Chrome LC. The former Johns Hopkins Blue Jay played in 6 games over two seasons for the Chrome and recorded 8 points. Williams was not the only Chrome offensive player to struggle last year. Now with the Archers Chris Bates can incorporate Williams into his dynamic offense. The Archers could have a few important players missing at the start of the PLL season as Tom Schreiber and Rogers are on a Toronto Rock team that looks like it could make a deep playoff run in the NLL. If Rogers and Schreiber miss games to start the summer, Cole Williams may need to contribute right away for the Archers.
That's the last of the free agency news for today, but there are still some keep free agents who have not signed with a team. Names to watch: Eddy Glazener, John Sexton, Ryder Garnsey, Michael Ehrhardt, Connor Farrell, Ian MacKay and Tucker Durkin.
