Thoughts, Facts, Camp Position Battles (CPB)
Two Ryan's, Two Matt's, a Charlie and a Charles
The Redwoods offense is getting a slight revamp or maybe a large one. The personnel from the midfield is largely the same, and it is LARGE. Bertand 6'3, Jules 6'2, Jones 6'5, Perk 6'4 with another big midfielder from the draft in Cole Kirst 6'2. Now, this massive offense is coached by THE GREAT John Grant Jr. Last season the Redwoods had some HIGH highs and the LOWEST lows. Those lows were scoring 3 goals in a single game the lowest goal total in PLL history. JGR will look to get more production from the gigantic midfield. Also, they have to cut down on the turnovers, they have TD at the faceoff spot, use his dominance to get better production.
CPB- Who starts in cage for the Redwoods? Jack Kelly and Tim Troutner have gone back and forth the last two seasons in cage, does one of those players cement themselves as the starter before training camp is done.
Coach Nat brought in former UPenn LSM/SSDM BJ Farrare who has the ability to play both positions at an elite level. Look for the Ivy League undrafted free agent to make a splash at camp and make some game day rosters this summer.
The Redwoods traded away Matt Kavanagh, one of the original Redwoods who came to training camp down in Florida in 2019, he's now on the Cannons. In his place the Redwoods have added Ryan Tiereny, Eli McLaughlin, brought back Wes Berg (a Redwood in 2019), and Ryan Lee will return to the field at the ended of the NLL finals.
The Redwoods like the Archers saw some significant changes to their roster with the retirement of SSDMs Jack Near and Patrick Harbeson, two original Redwoods and two heart beats of that team. They energy, grit, and experience won't be easy to replace.
And as always it ROLL 'WOODS till the wheels fall off!
